How do you choose a stay by the sea on the Gargano?
There are four kinds of base: the old town of Vieste, the beach resorts, the quieter spots near Peschici and Mattinata, and an island. Hotel Seggio is in the old town of Vieste, with a private lido and a pool among the rocks below. Gattarella Family Resort, Pugnochiuso Resort and Hotel Gargano are the beach resorts.
Gattarella is a family resort in a pinewood at Lama le Canne, with a private beach, two pools and a mini club. Pugnochiuso is a gated resort of about 150 hectares on the coast road between Vieste and Mattinata, with two bays and a beach for its guests. Hotel Gargano sits on the Portonuovo bay with a semi-Olympic pool and a private beach club.
Two are smaller. La Chiusa delle More is a 16th-century masseria near Peschici with 10 rooms, a pool and a terrace restaurant. La Locanda del Carrubo is a resort and spa at Montelci near Mattinata that the Region lists as a five-star luxury hotel.
Mattinata has two more. Baia delle Zagare Resort puts 108 rooms in villas on a cliff of Aleppo pines, with two coves reserved for guests and rooms reached only by stairs. Hotel Residence Il Porto sits on the hill above the Bay of Mattinata, with 44 apartments with kitchens, a panoramic pool and partner beach clubs.
Out at sea, Hotel Kyrie is a three-star hotel in the pine wood of San Domino, the largest of the Isole Tremiti, reached by boat. Back near Vieste, Andiamo in Puglia has an entry on the Baia di Campi beach, in Italian.
