How do you choose a stay by the sea in Bari and Trani?

The split is harbor town or city. Marè Resort and Palazzo Filisio are palazzi in Trani, Dogana Resort stands on the old port quay in Molfetta, and Grand Hotel Terme is a thermal hotel on the front at Margherita di Savoia. Bari has four of the ten, and Barletta and Bisceglie one each.

In Trani, Marè Resort has 13 rooms on the second floor of Palazzo Telesio, furnished by Culti, and a terrace over the harbor and the cathedral. Palazzo Filisio is a 17th-century palace at the foot of the cathedral, with 14 rooms that face the sea or the cathedral. Dogana Resort puts 35 rooms and a spa in a 17th-century palazzo, and the Region lists it as a five-star hotel.

At Grand Hotel Terme every room has a private balcony, and the spa opens seven days a week.

In Bari, Dilman Boutique Hotel is on Via Calefati, and Masseria Sant’Anna is an 18th-century watchtower at Marina di Palese with 12 rooms, close to the airport. Palazzo Calò is an albergo diffuso in a 16th-century palazzo in the old town, and Masseria Pietrasole Metaresort is a walled masseria in the Bari countryside that hosts weddings and events. Palazzo Calò and Pietrasole both say they open all year.

Up the coast, Hotel dei Cavalieri in Barletta has 49 rooms, a pool and a wellness center, and Hotel Villa in Bisceglie has 28 rooms in a large garden. For the sea and what is on along this stretch, Andiamo in Puglia has a page on the Nord Barese coast, in Italian.

Three of the ten are in estimated band 2: Dogana Resort, Grand Hotel Terme and Masseria Pietrasole Metaresort. The other seven are band 1. Every stay in the area is on the Bari and Trani hub, and the list for all of Puglia is By the sea.

Which stays in Bari and Trani are left off, and why?

Two of the 12: an estate near Bitonto and a stay by the Bari ring road. Both have precise positions beyond the 2 km limit, and neither states a beach club or a private beach in our data. They are built for events and spa days more than for swimming.

Distance alone cannot tell you whether the shore below a harbor hotel is a beach, a rock platform or a quay. Ask the hotel before you pack for a swim.

Questions travelers ask

Which stays in Bari and Trani are by the sea?

Ten stays qualify: Dilman Boutique Hotel, Dogana Resort, Grand Hotel Terme, Hotel dei Cavalieri, Hotel Villa, Marè Resort, Masseria Pietrasole Metaresort, Masseria Sant'Anna, Palazzo Calò and Palazzo Filisio. Each lies within 2 km of the coast in a straight line in our data. None states a private beach, so every one is here on distance alone.

Do any of these hotels have a beach of their own?

None states a private beach or a beach club of its own. Grand Hotel Terme in Margherita di Savoia says the Lido Terme beach is across the road, and Masseria Sant'Anna lists a beach club by agreement. At the other eight the sea is close, and how you get into it is a question for the hotel.

Why are two stays in Bari and Trani not on the list?

Two of the 12 stays in Bari and Trani have precise positions more than 2 km from the coast: an estate near Bitonto and a stay by the Bari ring road. Neither states a beach club or a private beach, so neither qualifies. Both have a spa and appear on the spa page for this area.

Does by the sea mean a sandy beach in Bari and Trani?

The 2 km is a straight line to the coast in our data. It is not a walking route, and it says nothing about the shore. Dogana Resort stands on the old port quay in Molfetta, and Palazzo Filisio at the foot of Trani cathedral. Ask each hotel how guests reach water they can swim in.
