Palazzo Calò is a four-star albergo diffuso in a 16th-century palazzo in Bari Vecchia, the old town of Bari, in the Bari and Trani area. It has 12 rooms: 10 studios from 22 to 58 square meters with their own kitchen, and 2 suites in Palazzo Maurelli a few steps away. It suits a city break on foot, and it is the wrong pick for a countryside masseria or a beach holiday.
Our editors have not visited this property. This entry is built from the property's own published information, checked on the date shown. The facts were gathered from those pages with their evidence; a final editorial review is still pending. Our method: How we select. Who runs this site: About.
Each line is copied word for word from the page named under it, as read on the date shown. Distances are calculated from the property's position, and an estimated price band has no official rate behind it.

una dimora del XVI secolo interamente ristrutturata palazzocalo.com/palazzo-calo, Palazzo Calò is a 16th-century palazzo in Bari Vecchia, the old town of Bari, restored as a four-star hotel. The Regione Puglia register for 2026 files it as an albergo diffuso, a hotel whose rooms are spread over more than one building, with 12 rooms and 30 beds.
The restoration kept the original exposed stone walls and added modern design and home automation. The result is a set of studios, each with its own kitchen, so breakfast in your room or a late supper after the bistrot closes is easy.
Position does the rest. You sleep inside the old town, a few minutes on foot from the Basilica di San Nicola. It sits in the first of five price bands (an estimate, since no official rate was found).
The register counts 10 rooms in Palazzo Calò, from 22 to 58 square meters, and 2 more in Palazzo Maurelli. The website names the types Classic Studio A22, Monolocale Standard A35 and A39, Monolocale Familiare A37, Monolocale Superior A43 and Monolocale Deluxe A58. Monolocale is Italian for studio.
Four of them, the Deluxe A58, the Superior A43, the Familiare A37 and the Standard A39, are laid out on two levels. If stairs inside the room are a problem, say so when you book.
Every studio has its own entrance, soundproofed windows, a king-size bed with a Simmons mattress and pillows, and an extra-large shower in a resin bathroom. You also get an equipped kitchen with a fridge, air conditioning, a safe, a 32-inch satellite TV, and wired and wireless internet. A cot is available.
Palazzo Maurelli opened in June 2022 after a renovation begun in 2017. It is a small separate building with two rooms of 40 square meters each, a lift and a terrace reserved for guests.
The bistrot sits behind a Renaissance doorway. A Latin inscription on its white stone lintel names Tullio and Giovanni Jacopo Calò and their friends, and gives the year 1583. The bistrot uses the same words for its name, Calò et Amicis.
Since January 24, 2024 the kitchen has had chef Stella Shi as consultant. The room is minimal, and the dishes start from Puglian ingredients cooked in a contemporary way: the website shows orecchiette two ways, squid and the catch of the day.
The bistrot, also listed as Badù Bistrot on Largo Maurelli, is open every day from 7 to 11 p.m. Book by phone or WhatsApp, and phone for a table of more than six.
In season, dinner and aperitivo also run on the roof terrace, which reopened on May 12, 2026 with a new menu, selected cocktails and local wines. Breakfast is included and continental, according to the register, and its listed cuisines include vegetarian dishes and dishes for celiac guests.
Bari Vecchia is the San Nicola quarter, set between the city’s old and new ports and facing the seafront. Italia.it describes a medieval core enclosed by walls and dominated by the Norman-Swabian castle, with women still making orecchiette by hand in the lanes.
The relics of St. Nicholas of Myra arrived in Bari in 1087, and the Basilica di San Nicola, dedicated to him, is a few minutes from Strada Lamberti on foot. The hotel also places the Cathedral, the Teatro Petruzzelli and the port within the same short walk.
From the terrace you look over the old town’s lanes and roofs to the Cathedral of San Sabino and the dome of Santa Teresa dei Maschi.
The hotel itself calls via Sparano and corso Vittorio Emanuele, a few steps away, the heart of the city’s shopping and nightlife. That is the reason the soundproofed windows matter more here than in a farmhouse.
Choose Palazzo Calò for a city break on foot, with the old town, the basilica and the seafront close by. The kitchen helps on a longer stay or with children, and Bari works as a first or last night before a flight or a departure from the port.
Look elsewhere if you would rather sleep in a quiet district near the airport than in the old town. Masseria Sant’Anna is a hotel in an 18th-century coastal watchtower at Palese, a small seaside town on the coast north of Bari, with 12 rooms, a garden and a beach club by agreement that opens in summer.
If you want a city hotel with more in-room extras, Dilman Boutique Hotel on Via Calefati, a few steps from the Murat district, has relax rooms with both a jacuzzi and a private sauna, and a vertical garden of more than 300 plants.
Fly into Bari, the nearer of the two airports and the obvious one for this stay. Brindisi is much farther away.
Aim for Bari’s old town, in the Bari and Trani area. Palazzo Calò is at Strada Lamberti 8, and the bistrot entrance is on Largo Maurelli.
You do not need a car for the city: the main sights are a short walk, and the register lists transfers from the airport, the port and the station. If you rent a car for day trips along the coast or inland, the hotel’s parking is covered and paid, so book a space before you arrive.
An albergo diffuso is a hotel whose rooms are spread over more than one building, and the 2026 Regione Puglia register files Palazzo Calò under that type, with four stars. Ten rooms are in the 16th-century palazzo on Strada Lamberti, and two 40 square meter rooms are in Palazzo Maurelli, a few steps away.
The rooms at Palazzo Calò are studios with an equipped kitchen and a fridge, which the regional register describes as a fold-away kitchen. Each studio has its own entrance, soundproofed windows, air conditioning, a safe and a king-size bed with a Simmons mattress. Several, including the Deluxe A58, are laid out on two levels.
