Why it’s on the Edit

Grand Hotel Vigna Nocelli is a five-star luxury hotel on the state road between Foggia and Lucera. The Regione Puglia accommodation register for 2026 gives it that category, with 64 rooms and 128 beds. It is the only five-star luxury stay in the Monti Dauni area on the Edit.

The building is older than the category. The hotel says this 13th-century structure began as a hospice for travelers heading to the ports of Puglia, where they sailed for the Holy Land, and for pilgrims bound for the sanctuary of St. Michael on the Gargano or the Basilica of San Nicola in Bari.

Expect a hotel with a spa, congress rooms and reception halls, built for groups as much as couples. The register describes a resort and spa with a congress center, wedding rooms, outdoor pools and a large private car park.

The rooms

The hotel counts 64 rooms, 51 Classic and 13 Suite, and reserves four of them for guests with reduced mobility. All rooms are on the ground floor, set among palm trees. Each has a bath with hydromassage jets and a shower, a minibar, a safe, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV.

Above the Classic room the hotel lists Superior (25 m²), Family (40 m²), Junior Suite (45 m²) and Suite Deluxe (55 m²). The Family room is two spaces, a double bedroom and a living room with a two-seat sofa bed, enough for four people.

The Junior Suite and the Suite Deluxe carry the historic look: a canopy bed, 19th-century wardrobes and furniture, and gilded Louis Philippe armchairs. The Junior Suite adds a fireplace and a work desk with broadband. If the old-building feel is why you are booking, ask for one of these two.

Eating and drinking

The restaurant is open every day for lunch and dinner, to hotel guests and to people passing through. The menu changes daily, with land or sea options, and there is an à la carte list too. A half-board menu exists with two courses, a glass of wine, water and coffee, so ask what it costs for your dates.

The hotel also has a bar and serves lunch or dinner in the room if you book it. For weddings, the kitchen is led by chef Francesco Genchi, whom the hotel describes as mixing Puglian tradition with creative cooking.

The menu turns over daily, so ask for the day’s choices when you reserve a table, and say early whether you want the land or the sea option.

The setting

The hotel stands in the Tavoliere delle Puglie, the plain that Foggia sits in the middle of, between the Gulf of Manfredonia and the Gargano. Lucera is built on three hills in a vine-growing area and looks over the whole plain. Italia.it names its Swabian Fortress as the building that best tells the town’s past.

Foggia has a cathedral raised in the 12th century that still shows much of its Romanesque facade, and a series of underground chambers called hypogea. Both are in Foggia itself, so one afternoon covers them.

On the grounds there is an outdoor pool for in-house guests, a spa with wellness circuits and massages, and a gym with a treadmill, a bike, a bench and weights. Around the hotel you get flat farmland and a state road. Olive groves and the coast are elsewhere.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

It suits couples and families who want a five-star base for Foggia, Lucera and the pilgrim routes to the Gargano, with a spa for the evenings. It also suits wedding parties: the halls are large, the grounds have a garden for civil ceremonies, and the hotel is open all year.

Look elsewhere if you want the sea, olive groves or a small masseria: Grand Hotel Vigna Nocelli is a 64-room hotel on a plain. Hotel Up Foggia is a 38-room four-star hotel with a spa inside Foggia itself, a better fit if you want to sleep inside the city. For the coast, pick a stay on the Gargano instead.

Getting there

Fly into Bari, the nearer of the two airports. Brindisi is much farther away.

Aim for Foggia or Lucera, the two towns the hotel sits between, in the Foggia and the Monti Dauni area. The hotel is on a state road in open country, so a car is the practical way to see the plain, Lucera and the Gargano.

Parking is private and large, so a rental car is no problem. If you would rather not drive on arrival, the hotel runs a transfer service from airports, ports and railway stations. Book it with reception before you travel.
