The short version

Why it’s on the Edit

Don Ferrante is a boutique hotel in the old town of Monopoli. The hotel calls the building an ancient fortress on the reef, and says a small fortress went up on the southern side of the town walls in the days of Don Ferrante Loffredo, a Neapolitan nobleman who was viceroy of Bari and Otranto.

The 2026 Regione Puglia register files the main hotel as a five-star historic-residence hotel with 10 rooms and 21 beds. The Luxury Guest House and the Luxury Town House are registered separately as guest rooms (affittacamere), which is why the hotel’s own site presents three groups of rooms.

It is on the Edit for the setting: a restored building above the sea, inside the old town, with a rooftop terrace. It is small, and the car stays outside the walls.

The rooms

The main building, the Dimora, has the smallest rooms. The Single Room is 16 square meters on the first floor, with a queen bed and a sea view. The Small Dimora Superior is 17 square meters, with a king bed and a Juliet balcony facing the sea.

The Suite Don Ferrante has a balcony just above the water, a fireplace, a honey-colored stone vaulted ceiling, a king bed and a living room with a sofa bed.

The Luxury Guest House has larger units. The Suite with terrace Carlo V is 45 square meters with a private rooftop terrace of 38 square meters and a view of the castle.

The Suite Deluxe Dama Bianca is 40 square meters, with a fireplace in the living room facing the sea. Il Sottano, at basement level, is 38 square meters with a jacuzzi bathtub.

In the Luxury Town House, the Immacolata suite is 70 square meters on two floors, carved into local limestone, with a stone jacuzzi tub that has chromotherapy and a cascade function.

Eating and drinking

Locanda Don Ferrante is the restaurant, on the sea-view terrace. It serves regional recipes, Apulian flavors mixed with Mediterranean ones, with a varied wine list. It is open from May to September and closes on Wednesdays.

A lounge bar on the same terrace is open for cocktails at any hour of the day. Breakfast is a continental buffet served at the Locanda, with cereals, artisanal biscuits, homemade cakes and tarts, fresh seasonal fruit and hot and cold drinks.

The hotel also lists traditional Apulian cooking classes with local chefs, private tastings and boat experiences along the coast.

The site’s footer reads Open from May to September, while the 2021 register gave the main hotel a whole-year opening. Ask which applies to your dates.

The setting

Don Ferrante stands just above the sea, with the Adriatic on one side and white houses on the other. The hotel counts 14 chimneys that light up the terrace at sunset, and a small outdoor pool for sunbathing.

The rooftop terrace has a sea-view jacuzzi and a sun terrace with loungers and umbrellas. In-room massages are on the wellness menu, and the hotel offers a private mini tour of the old town by golf cart, subject to availability.

Monopoli itself has a baroque cathedral and, on the seafront, the Castle of Charles V. The hotel says the coast has over 25 coves and sandy public beaches. A beach of the hotel’s own is not confirmed here.

Good to know

  • The hotel is in a limited traffic zone. Parking is for residents only. The nearest public parking is about 300 meters away, outside the old town, and a private garage 500 meters away can be booked in advance for an extra charge.
  • The restaurant is open from May to September and closed on Wednesdays.
  • Private transfers to Bari and Brindisi airports and to railway stations are listed.
  • The 2021 register gave an opening period of the whole year for the main hotel.
  • Weddings and events are offered. Capacity is not confirmed here.
  • Children, pets and a lift are not confirmed here.
  • Price band: 3 of 5 (estimated: no official rate found).

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Don Ferrante suits couples who want the old town of Monopoli on foot, a sea view from the room and a roof terrace to sit on. The rooms run from a 16 square meter single to a two-floor suite, so there is a choice of budget inside one address.

Look elsewhere if you want to park at the door or stay on a countryside estate with a large pool. Masseria Torrepietra and Masseria Paretano are masserie in the Monopoli countryside.

Getting there

Don Ferrante is in Monopoli old town, in the Monopoli and Polignano area. Bari airport is the nearer airport, and Brindisi is the alternative.

Drive to the public parking outside the walls, or book the private garage, and then walk. Alternatively, ask the hotel for its private transfer, which it lists for both airports and the railway stations.
