Why it’s on the Edit

Villa Maria is a family hotel and reception venue at Crispiano, in the Taranto and the Ionian coast area. The Regione Puglia register lists it at four stars. The Conserva family began in 1950 with a pastry shop, the Ideal Bar, and with weddings and receptions at people’s homes. In 1970 work began to turn Villa Maria into a reception hall, which the site describes as a renowned one in the province of Taranto, and the hotel opened in 1996.

It is a practical hotel in the first of five price bands (an estimate, since no official rate was found). Its case is a pool, a restaurant, an airport shuttle and a family history.

The same family runs the events side, so ask whether a reception is booked on your dates.

The rooms

The site lists 20 double rooms in four types, all with a private bathroom, air conditioning, Sky TV, a phone, a minibar and a veranda or balcony facing the pool. Every room is reached by a lift or an outside staircase.

Economy is 10 m² and Standard 14 m², both described as snug and suited to short stays or business trips. Family is 15 m² with extra beds for children up to 12. Superior is 22 m², quiet, with a veranda on the garden or the pool.

The hotel adds that 2 rooms have a shared pre-entrance for families. In 2025 the former Sala Mary was converted into 8 more rooms, so the count may differ from the 20 on the room page.

Eating and drinking

The restaurant offers Puglian and Italian dishes, with attention to seasons and to the raw materials. The hotel says it opens the day with breakfast and goes on to lunch and dinner. Breakfast is included in the stay.

Lunch and dinner are listed as available on request, which suggests booking ahead. A catering service takes the same kitchen to private events and receptions elsewhere, and the site says it works from the raw materials of the area.

By the pool you can order aperitifs. Opening days, menus and prices are not confirmed here.

The setting

Villa Maria stands on the Via per Martina Franca, set among green spaces at Crispiano, with a large garden and an outdoor pool. The hotel describes the grounds as quiet, and a lift serves the rooms.

The pool has an overflow edge that gives a mirror effect, a shallow zone of about 1.50 m and a deep zone of about 2.50 m. There are white loungers, and outside guests can book access, so you may share it. Listed rates describe pool access as free during the summer season.

The garden, the pool and the kitchen are all used for weddings and events, so the property is as much a venue as a hotel.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Drivers who want a plain, family-run hotel with a pool, a restaurant and parking around Taranto, and families who can use the Family and Superior rooms, will do well. The hotel also names business travelers, and it describes the Economy and Standard rooms as suited to short or business stays.

Look elsewhere if you want a historic building or a countryside estate. Masseria Amastuola is a wine estate in the same town, and Casa Isabella has a spa.

Villa Maria is at Via per Martina Franca 181, Crispiano, in the Taranto and the Ionian coast area. Brindisi airport is the nearer, 60 km away in a straight line, against 71 km for Bari. The hotel lists an airport shuttle, so ask which airports it serves.

The coast is about 13 km away in a straight line. Parking is private.
